…. to meaningfully improve outcomes and create new value – by successfully driving change
Why is this important ?
To better position the organization for success by mitigating failure stemming from –
- People being comfortable and familiar with current operations, tools, expectations, processes, etc.
- Individual or organization – resistance to change / little interest in the future / learning new things
- Analysis paralysis
- People not encouraged or rewarded to – explore / try / be different, and/or culture issues
- Pilot purgatory – where new initiatives / projects die
- NIA – Nativity, Ignorance, Arrogance
- Decision makers not recognizing the changing nature of risk
- Lack of – Leadership, Vision, Look Ahead (of what will have value), Entrepreneurial Mindset, Strategic Thinking, etc.
To get past these and other challenges, it’s essential to create new value and opportunities, be good at recognizing and managing the risks associated with change, and meaningfully improve outcomes by –
- Selecting a good “ Champion “ in the organization who recognizes an opportunity, can advocate for change, get buy-in, and execute on the plan.
– Why ? Because without someone taking ownership of the initiative or propelling the effort, new initiatives usually go nowhere or die on the vine.
- Picking a great use case and vendor(s).
– Why ? To demonstrate – important new capabilities and value, progress on making good on a new opportunity or corporate strategic objective, success at effecting change, ability to expand relevance and revenue, etc.
- Building something that matters to the organization and deliver meaningful benefits for Customers – with an impressive ROI, value proposition, etc.
– And be scientific with metrics, processes / methods, isolate variables and prove value, etc.
- Avoiding vendor lock-in and products with limited functionality.
– For example, don’t be dependent on a product that isn’t “ open “, or plays well with others, limits your ability to build or be part of an ecosystem, causes a silo effect, has limited flexibility or data access, etc.
While these insights are based on common sense, given the consequences and for many reasons, it’s surprising how often the are ignored, overlooked, or forgotten !
